Private JetCO2 Calculator
Estimate how much fuel a private jet flight burns and how much CO2 it emits, for the whole aircraft and per passenger, with an indicative cost to offset it.
London to Nice, 1,074 km one way, very light jets, nonstop
- CO2, whole flight
- 1.80 t
- tonnes, estimate
- CO2 per passenger
- 0.45 t
- shared by 4
- Time in the air
- 2h 05m
- incl. taxi and climb
- Fuel burned
- 188 US gal
- about 570 kg of Jet A
Estimated offset cost: $27 to $72 for the flight, at $15 to $40 per tonne (a typical voluntary market range; actual prices vary by project).

Based on 90 US gal per flight hour, an indicative average for the size, and the flight time of the Embraer Phenom 100EV.

There are three steps, each an estimate:
- Flight time. We take the great-circle distance and the speed of a typical aircraft of the chosen size in our fleet, plus about 25 minutes for taxi, climb and descent per leg. Ground time at fuel stops is left out.
- Fuel. Flight time multiplied by an indicative average fuel burn for the size (table below).
- CO2. Jet A weighs about 3.04 kg per US gallon, and burning 1 kg of it releases about 3.16 kg of CO2. So one gallon gives roughly 9.6 kg of CO2.
Fuel burn we assume
Indicative averages in US gallons per flight hour, one figure per size from typical published ranges:
| Aircraft size | US gal / hour |
|---|---|
| Very Light Jets | 90 |
| Light Jets | 180 |
| Midsize Jets | 240 |
| Super Midsize Jets | 280 |
| Heavy Jets | 400 |
| Ultra Long Range | 500 |
| Turboprops | 85 |
What the estimate leaves out
Real fuel burn changes with the exact model, take-off weight, cruise altitude, winds and air traffic routing, and it is highest during climb. The figure covers CO2 only. It does not include other effects of flying at altitude, such as contrails, or the emissions from producing and transporting the fuel. It also leaves out any empty positioning flight before or after your trip.
Total versus per passenger
The aircraft burns roughly the same fuel whether it carries one passenger or eight, so the total barely changes with the group size. The per-passenger figure is the total divided by the number of people on board. Four people sharing a light jet each account for a quarter of its emissions; one person flying alone accounts for all of it.
Offsetting your flight
The offset cost uses a range of $15 to $40 per tonne of CO2, a typical range for the voluntary carbon market. Prices depend on the type of project and the standard behind it, and some cost more. This is an estimate, not a certified calculation. JetsFly can arrange offsets on request: contact us with your flight details.
Choosing the smallest aircraft that fits your group and flying a full cabin are the simplest ways to reduce emissions per person. The range map shows which jets can fly your route nonstop.
