Heavy Jetsfor Sale
New and pre-owned prices, the models to shortlist and what to check before you buy.
Heavy jets carry twelve to sixteen passengers in cabins with separate zones, a full galley and seats that turn into beds. They fly 8,000 to 12,500 km, so Europe to the US East Coast, the Gulf to Europe and most of Asia from the Gulf are non-stop trips.
The pre-owned market offers the most value here. A Gulfstream G450 or Falcon 7X that cost $40 million to $50 million new can sell for a fraction of that ten or fifteen years later, with the same cabin and range.

Before you buy
What to check on heavy jets
Major inspection timing
Large-cabin jets have major inspections that can cost $1 million to $3 million and take the aircraft out of service for months. Find out exactly when the next one falls due, and use it in price negotiation.
Interior condition
A full cabin refurbishment on a heavy jet can cost $1 million to $3 million. Inspect seats, veneer, galley equipment and the entertainment system, not just photos.
Engines, APU and programs
Rolls-Royce and Pratt & Whitney engines on this size cost millions to overhaul. Programs such as CorporateCare or ESP protect you and the resale value.
Range with your load
Brochure range assumes light loads and good winds. Ask for real flight plans on your longest route with your passengers and bags in winter headwinds.
Values of older heavy jets have fallen faster than those of smaller aircraft, which makes them attractive to buy but expensive to keep. The GIV-SP and Legacy 600 cost little to buy, and their operating costs stay those of a large aircraft.
